What I Love Wednesday 10.2.13

It's already October! How exciting. This is truly one of my favorite months. Anyway, I am happy to be back from vacation. I am vigorously working on editing pictures and trying to use YouTube video editing to create an awesome vlog to post soon. I would also like to do a haul video from our little trip, anyway, on to the favorites!

Crushed Velvet Leggings

I have loved crushed velvet leggings ever since I saw Cutiepiemarzia and Grav3yardgirl featured some in a haul and in lookbooks. I had a feeling that they were going to be an ever-growing popular fashion trend. I snagged myself a pair of black ones at Urban Outfitters (seeing as we don't have one and I have only ever been to one in Las Vegas 3 years ago.) I regret not also getting the maroon pair, but I probably would have had to buy more clothing... BooHoo.

This Is A Book by Demetri Martin

This book is so much more than a book. If you like Demetri Martin's comedy, you should definitely get this book. I love how he's included some of his illustrations and always hilarious graphs here as well. I haven't finished reading it so that's about as much as I can talk about.

Baby Leemurs

I remember one of the first times I saw leemurs at a zoo and being obsessed with how they look like a combination of cats, bats and raccoons. I later rekindled a love for them when Kirstie Alley briefly had her own television show and she had them for pets. And now, the above photo. Need I say more?

 The Office

The Office will always be one of my favorite shows. I have recently started re-watching it on Netflix since they've added the final season and I am in love all over again. I dread watching the finale fearing that if it ends a small piece of me will die inside. I am feel a real connection to a lot of the characters and love how their lives and relationships with each other have grown. If Creed, Andy and/or Toby are not your favorite characters then why are you here?

Baby Got Bat Bag

Y'all know nothing about my obsession with Halloween. I love it. I love to decorate for it, I love to dress up for it. It can be a lot of different things for people. My problem is that I would wear this bag all year long and never be tired of it. Just look how cute that dopey little guy is!

That's all for this week. No playlist this week since I have only started listening to two new songs. Next time!

Product Review: Avon Nail Art Design Strips

Today I want to do something different for this blog. I want to do a product review. I see makeup and nail art to be somewhat of an artistic and creative outlet that allows individuals to wear their personalities in a somewhat subtle way when clothing and other outlets have been stifled.

You may be familiar with Avon products as the name has been around since 1886, providing all sorts of things for women and their families. Popular products included perfumes, ANEW brand products and Skin So Soft. Recently, a friend of mine has started to sell Avon products and I am thrilled (my dwindling paycheck is the proof there).

I bought the two nail strip sets you see above and thought tonight that I wanted to spruce up my nails, but didn't like the hassle of being in 'Wet Nail Jail' as I like to call it. I got out my strips, a pair of scissors, and a nail file. I also had pushed back my cuticles prior to application.

These are super simple to use and are essentially stickers but with a super adhesive that makes them last for weeks. There are easy to follow instructions on the back, but having tried Sally Hansen's version of these strips I was familiar with the method. I stuck the sticker that best fit my nail to the base of my nail and rubbed it out towards the top of my nail so not to get wrinkles or bubbles. I then rubbed it down with one of those wooden sticks that are flat-angled  on one end and pushed the sticker down again in all angles. I folded over the excess of strip that was not on my nail then cut it off. Finally, I filed down the small sharp pieces. It was as easy as that. I find that I can get nail strips to last one more week (they are said to last around 2) by coating my nails in a clear top coat of Sally Hansen's Tough as Nails.

My only complaint is not about the product itself but about my nails! My nails are oddly shaped and sometimes the sticker is not wide enough. Stinking genetics...
